A Quiet Authority

Location: Churchgate, Mumbai
Adaptive re-use: warehouse to Advocate’s Office at Horniman Circle, Mumbai
Tucked within the historic precincts of Horniman Circle, a modest tenement—once a warehouse—was reimagined into a refined workspace for a practicing advocate. The brief was clear: transform the large volume into a ground-plus-mezzanine structure to create a formal, functional office space, echoing the dignified atmosphere of the courtrooms it often connects to.
The spatial intervention retains the warmth and gravity of traditional legal environments while introducing a contemporary efficiency. Custom wood joinery, classic detailing, and a palette of warm browns create a sense of timelessness, underscored by crafted staircases, concealed storage, and generous cabinetry.
Every inch of the compact plan was optimized—from file storage seamlessly hidden behind louvered shutters to a sculptural central stair that anchors the space both structurally and visually.
The project continues to serve its purpose with quiet elegance and has been appreciated not just by its occupants, but also by peers in the legal fraternity.
